I know Illinois has just become a one-tier state (there will no longer be any new Registered CPAs, just Licensed CPAs). I’ve checked the Board of Examiner’s website but there is limited information on exactly how this impacts candidates who have recently passed the exam.

My understanding is that the BOE used to send you a CPA certificate once you passed the exam, but you weren’t officially a CPA until you had met the experience requirement and had become licensed or registered. Does anyone know how the process now works after passing? I mostly want to know if the BOE is still sending out certificates before a license is issued. Also, I’m a little unsure of the work experience. Between my work in grad school and my new job, I can cobble together a year’s worth of qualifying experience, but I’m not sure what will count and what won’t. Does anyone have a clear idea of exactly how the work experience requirement works?

Thanks in advance for your help!
